Pick of the Week: Lawry’s The Prime Rib
For any restaurant to be in business for more than 25 years is quite an accomplishment. But how about the original dating back to 1938 and the Las Vegas location since 1997? Such is the case of Lawry’s The Prime Rib.
Only one of two in the US (the other is in Beverly Hills), the Las Vegas Lawry’s is situated just off the Strip on Flamingo at Howard Hughes Pkwy. Befitting the early 20th century origin, the décor features a classy and beautiful Art Deco design, hardwood flooring and walls, a photo collection detailing the nearly century of restaurant operation, staff dressed in old school uniforms, and white linen tablecloths.

The exceptional service and unique menu seem to be a step back into the 1930s. These days not too many restaurants offer visual entertainment in the form of tableside service, but here it’s a trademark. The two menu items the restaurant is most known for are the Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad with spinach, romaine, iceberg, shoestring beets, croutons, egg, and vintage dressing tossed and spun tableside by your server; and the four-hour slow roasted Prime Ribs of Beef carved tableside from gleaming silver carts as has been the practice from the restaurant’s beginning. The Prime Ribs meal includes the salad, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, whipped cream horseradish, and au jus. You can further customize your Prime Rib dinner by choosing from five different cut sizes, cart sides like Creamed Corn, and Creamed Spinach; and Wine & Shallot Butter, Beef Fat Béarnaise, and Blue Cheese sauces.
Besides the Prime Ribs there are beef options of charbroiled filet mignon, the Lawry’s Prime ribeye steak, and a prime NY strip; and other delights such as Seafood Tower, Chilean Sea Bass, Lobster Tails, Alaskan King Crab Legs, Skuna Bay Salmon Rockefeller, Jidori Chicken, and Cauliflower Steak.
If you’re into watching pyrotechnics you’ll want to end with the Baked Alaska or Bananas Foster, both of which are ignited before being served.
Lawry’s is open for lunch Mon-Fri, nightly for dinner, and happy hour is offered Mon-Fri from 4:30 to 6 p.m. For more info and to view the complete menus, visit lawrysonline.com/lawrys-the-prime-rib-las-vegas.

Eureka! Opens New Location in Henderson
Eureka!, a hospitality group overseeing 36 restaurants nationally, has opened a second Southern Nevada location on St. Rose in Henderson just east of Maryland Pkwy, joining its other on Fremont Street.
I appreciate the exclamation point in the restaurant’s name, as this eatery not only has a stellar beer selection but an even larger whiskey list to get me excited. More on both in a bit.
The décor features hardwood floor, wood lattice ceiling, hanging Edison lights, lots of greenery with a planter and shelves lined with potted plants, and the extensive whiskey collection on display above the bar. A very inviting feature is the patio with an open feel equipped with heaters, a fire pit, flowing water display, and fans with misters.

A scratch kitchen turns out signature dishes like Mac N’ Cheese Balls, Crispy Glazed Brussels Sprouts, Truffle Fries, Bourbon Barrel Cake, and a slew of decadent gourmet burgers such as 28 Day Dry-Aged Bone Marrow with bone marrow shiitake butter and my favorite: Jalapeño Egg fully loaded with fried egg, cheddar, bacon, chipotle sauce, and pickled jalapeños.
Eureka! is known for supporting local breweries, and this location does so by devoting 17 of its 20 taps to Vegas breweries, with the opening tap list including favorites like CraftHaus Tropical Forrest Hazy IPA, Lovelady Paleo Porter, and Mojave Ruby Soho Cider. The whiskey list features 40+ small-batch reasonably priced whiskeys such as Frey Ranch Straight Rye and Las Vegas Distillery Nevada 150 Bourbon. A good way to check them out is by ordering one of the flights, which includes an option to create your own.
Hats off to Eureka! for bringing a location to my end of the Vegas Valley and for assigning General Manager Floyd Tabios, one of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever meet.
