Pick of the Week: Eureka!
Eureka! in the Emergency Arts Building at 520 E. Fremont, across the street from the El Cortez, offers a range of gourmet burgers and much more.
The venue offers seating for 170 diners, an outdoor patio, and a space filled with slightly rustic touches including Edison hanging lights; wood ceiling, floor, and tables; and large windows allowing natural light.

Sure-fire hits on the Shareables menu are the Ahi Poke Stack with bourbon barrel-aged soy, black rice, smashed avocado, firecracker aioli, furikake, Fresno chili, sesame ginger dressing, and crispy wonton chips; Truffle Cheese Fries with truffle salt, Parmesan, and white truffle cheese sauce; and Mac N’ Cheese Balls with beer cheese sauce and ranch.
If you’re wise, you’ll opt for one of the gourmet burgers this eatery excels in, such as Bison with bacon-infused jalapeño jam, smoked mozzarella, and whiskey caramelized onions; or Fresno Fig with fig marmalade, melted goat cheese, bacon, and spicy porter mustard. But non-beef eaters have choices too, like Crispy Veggie Beetburger made with house made beet and kidney bean patty, house pickles, and tart lemon vinaigrette; Napa Chicken Sandwich—grilled chicken breast with roasted Roma tomato, pesto aioli, and Havarti; and Roasted Veggie Tacos with carrots, pickled onions, avocado, and bean smear.
In keeping with the whiskey theme (more on that in a bit), a fitting choice to end your meal with is the moist and savory sweet Bourbon Barrel Cake topped with pecans, caramel, and vanilla bean ice cream.

Since beer goes great with burgers, it’s not surprising that there is a very refined beer list with a lot of love shown to our local breweries with Able Baker Double Barrel Honey Dip Stout, Beer Zombies rotating Hazy IPA, Big Dog’s Brewing Co. Las Vegas Lager, CraftHaus Brewery Silver State Blonde, rotating meads from Deadwood Meadery, Las Vegas Brewing Co. Chantilly Cream Ale, Lovelady Brewing 9th Island, rotating ciders from Mojave Brewing, Neon Desert Brewing Early Out IPA, and North 5th Brewing Fierro Mexican Lager; and high quality regional beers like Coronado Brewing Orange Ave Wit and Russian River Damnation Belgian Golden Strong.
Whiskey lovers also have reason to rejoice, as there is a gargantuan list. In addition to more than 30 choices (all reasonably priced at $20 or less) on the menu with such stellar pours as Willett Family Estate Four-Year Rye and local H+C Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon, there are more than 60 more on the rotating list priced from $12-$150, which can be viewed by scanning a QR code on the menu, where you can find rare whiskies like Van Winkle Special Reserve “Lot B” 12 Year and Rare Character Brook Hill Single Barrel 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Some excellent values can be found during the Hoppy Hour Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. and 9 p.m.-close, features rotating taps for $5.50, house red, white, or rose wine for $7.50, select cocktails for $8.50, House Spirits for $8, Truffle Cheese Fries for $8, Mac N’ Cheese Balls for $8, Spinach Artichoke Dip for $8, and Eureka! American Burger for $13. Other enticements are $10 Moscow Mules all day on Mondays, half off wine on Wednesdays, $10 Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned and live music on Thursdays, and $8 Bloody Mary’s & Mimosas and live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
The hours are Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to midnight and Friday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
