Pick of the Week: Bazaar Mar

José Andrés Group has debuted Bazaar Mar, a seafood-driven restaurant on the main level of The Shops at Crystals on the Las Vegas Strip.

The 7,428-square-foot space features playful touches, including handmade 3D tiles shaped like vegetables, an oversized custom mural depicting a surreal seaside scene, custom seafood realism-inspired artwork, and an upside-down orange tree.

The menu is centered around seafood dishes rooted in Spanish flavors and includes:

  • Cobia “Rosa” Ceviche with “rose” of leche de tigre, nasturtium leaf, sweet potato, and corn nuts;
  • Bluefin Tuna and Fried Egg with chu-toro sashimi, quail eggs, and soy dashi;
  • Oyster Mushroom “Sea Anemone” with mushroom essence, anchovy aioli, and pickled sea beans; and
  • California “Funnel Cake,” a nod to the classic summer fair dessert, featuring traditional California roll ingredients. A selection of vegetables, salads, and meat dishes is also available.

The beverage program features a Spanish-forward wine list with a large selection of white wine producers and bottles from small, family-operated wineries with which José Andrés has built relationships over the years. Craft cocktails are also served, mirroring the theatrics of The Bazaar with elements of clouds, airs, and smokes.

Bar Centro will open later this month. This elevated bar will operate as a Spanish bakery serving coffee and pastries in the morning, Spanish-style pressed sandwiches for lunch, cocktails, caviar and desserts in the evening. Elevated bites emphasizing caviar and an extended dessert menu will also be available.

Bazaar Mar is open Sun.-Thu. 5 to 9 p.m. and Fri.-Sat. 5 to 10 p.m. Bar Centro’s hours will be Sun.-Thu. from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fri.-Sat. 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Cookbook Lending Library Now Open

The first cookbook lending library in America is now open inside the newly opened Palate in the Downtown Arts District.

Dubbed Nice Nice Bite and founded by chef, author and television personality Chef Alicia Shevetone and curated by longtime school librarian and community activist Dr. Nichole Beer, the cookbook lending library is just behind the restaurant’s hostess stand. It features a variety of cookbooks by notable chefs and authors with a diverse selection of cultural recipes, holiday and seasonal cookbooks, and more.

“Cookbooks are a luxury item for many people who may find it difficult to justify spending $50-$100 for a book they’d like to read. This cookbook library is designed to make culinary content more accessible to the community.”
