Pick of the Week: La Strega

La Strega Executive Chef and Partner Gina Marinelli, a two-time James Beard Foundation Award Semifinalist, has been wowing us with her culinary creations since coming to Las Vegas in 2006 and was one of the first accomplished chefs to offer outstanding dining experiences off the Strip.

Now, the farm-to-table coastal Italian Summerlin favorite will celebrate its 5th year of operation with a culinary feast fitting for such a landmark anniversary.

The Witch’s Gala event will occur on November 1, beginning at 5 p.m. The name fits as La Strega is Italian for The Witch and is partly named after the Italian folktale about a witch named Strega Nona who lived in a small Calabrian village and used magic to help her neighbors.

Chef Gina is often called the good witch in the kitchen, and the Gala will allow guests to interact with her and her entire team. Unlike the previous four anniversary celebrations, this year’s event will not be a sit-down dinner but will be served from several action stations throughout the restaurant. Guests can walk around and experience a broad spectrum of the talented chef’s culinary gifts, ranging from Norwegian Wolffish to ceviche on a snake ice sculpture to pickled pigs’ feet.

The interactive food stations will include a variety of stations, such as caviar, pasta, kettle corn, and dessert with featured dishes such as:

  • Roasted Pumpkin and Burrata
  • Brussels Sprouts on the Stalk
  • Prosciutto Cotto and Provolone Arancini
  • Caviar with Chicken Skins and Chicharrónes
  • Fruitti di Mare Pasta with squid ink bomboloni, calamari, shrimp, and spicy pomodoro
  • Porchetta with rapini pesto and pear mostarda
  • Whole Braised Spanish Octopus with red chimichurri and bibb lettuces
  • Displayed Shellfish featuring shrimp cocktail, oysters, scallop tartare, and mussel escabeche.

The atmosphere will be enhanced with themed decorations and special activations, including a witch’s tent featuring a tarot card reader.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best Halloween costumes.

Tickets are $88 per person, and they include the aforementioned culinary delights and a welcome cocktail courtesy of Strega Liqueur.
