Pick of the Week: Honey Salt

Honey Salt, the renowned eatery of husband-and-wife team executive chef Kim Canteenwalla and restaurant consultant Elizabeth Blau, opened 11 years ago and has become one of the most popular eateries in the burbs. It offers upscale dining in a casual and relaxed setting.

The brunch menu was updated over the summer. New décor elements leading to a warm and cozier feel include new upholstery for the booths, new bookshelves, and new color changes to dark brown and blue. New plaid wallpaper harkening to Elizabeth’s New England roots is also on one of the dining room walls, atop the bar and in the private room. New lamps are also included, as is a shelf above the kitchen with knickknacks.

New menu items include:

  • Corned Beef Hash with sweet potatoes, sweet peppers, caramelized onions, and farm-fresh sunny eggs
  • Strawberry Dutch Pancake with macerated strawberries, whipped cream, basil, and mint
  • Bananas Foster French Toast with brulee bananas, cornflake crust, candied pecans, and rum caramel whipped cream
  • Poutine Dutch Pancake, in which Chef Kim shows his Canadian origins by covering smoked bacon, cheese curds, and farm-fresh egg with black peppercorn bacon gravy
  • Corn Bisque with chili oil, sweet corn, and popped corn
  • Burrata Salad with heirloom tomatoes and seasonal stone fruit

Crowd pleasers that remain on the menu are:

  • Monkey Bread – brioche with bourbon caramel sauce
  • Eggwhite Frittata – a delicious mix of spinach, roasted tomato, fromage blanc, and market greens
  • BELT—an enhanced version of a BLT with thick-cut steak bacon, soft scrambled eggs, arugula, tomato, and lemon aioli served open-faced on sourdough toast
  • Vegan Avocado Toast with pickled Fresno chili, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and arugula served with Green Goodness Juice made with kale, celery, apples, lemon, fennel, cucumber, and ginger.

Prices are reasonable, with nearly all menu items priced between $5 and $17 and all but two below $20. A good deal is “Bottomless Therapy” for $25, which includes a two-hour time limit on all-you-can-drink bellinis, orange or blood orange mimosas, or several bloody Mary options.

The weekend brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. To view the complete brunch menu, click here.
