Henderson’s Water Street District finally got the wine bar it deserves with the June 7th opening of Azzura Wine Bar.
Located steps away from the hit restaurant Azzura Cucina Italiana and inside Public Works Coffee Bar-the locals’ hotspot for their daily cup o’ joe-the wine bar is the third F&B brainchild of Windom Kimsey located on the 300 block of Water Street.
The Wine
Curated by Samantha Remer, the wine list features selections from notable regions that are carefully chosen to include their special varietal. You’ll find a few Rieslings from Germany, Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, Pinot Noirs from Willamette Valley, and several French, Italian and Californian wines.
Remer says about the wine list, “I just wanted to have a little something for everyone.”
The menu currently features 25 wines by the glass, ranging from $9-28, with a rotating selection of guest favorites and new offerings. More than 75 wines are available by the bottle, ranging from $32-$264. A few favorites include Barbaresco, Azienda Vitivinicola Piazzo Arge, Piedmont IT 2018; Zinfandel Blend, Angels & Cowboys, Sonoma County, CA 2021; and Chablis, Domaine Testut, Vielles Vignes, FR 2022.
Whether by the glass or bottle, there are more than 100 wines to enjoy on-site or take home. There is a 25% discount for bottles-to-go. And for those who prefer grains over grapes or are spirit-free, Azzura Wine Bar also offers craft beers, many of which are local and available on draft for $7, as well as soft drinks, sparkling waters, iced tea, espresso and cappuccino.
Happy Hour is from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and select wines are available for $8 per glass.
The Food
The Aperitivo Menu features an array of small bites, insalatas, and paninis crafted by Executive Chef Jay Sherman.
A few standouts include Saltimbocca Bombs ($13.95), deep-fried rice Balls ($12.95), Chef Alessandra’s Mini Meatballs—a recipe from sister-concept Azzura Cucina ($9.95), and Charcuterie Boards featuring a chef’s selection of weekly rotating cheeses and meats available in medium ($25) and large ($40) sizes.
Another soon-to-be favorite shareable dish is the Bruschetta, where guests can pick 2 from unique combinations such as Brie with blueberry preserves, fresh blueberries, honey, and basil; Whipped Ricotta featuring lemon ricotta, pistachio, hot honey, and lemon zest; strawberry with goat cheese, strawberry, prosciutto, and balsamic; and Classic Tomato with basil, garlic, and olive oil.
The Vibes
Azzura Wine Bar shares a space with its sister-concept Public Works Coffee Bar. In anticipation of the opening, the interior was upgraded to include new lighting, an upgraded counter space and bar seating.
Seating options include an eclectic variety ranging from 2 and 4 tops with wood finish and industrial-style chairs to low-profile cushioned chairs with tables and a 6-top, community-style seating with modern in addition to the bar. There is also a private room “hidden” by a sliding barn door, which will be available for rent with the capacity to host parties of up to 30.
Azzura Wine Bar is located at 314 S. Water St. and is open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 12 to 9 p.m.
