James Beard Award-winning Chef Kwame Onwuachi is coming to Las Vegas to take over the SAHARA Las Vegas space, which is currently home to Bazaar Meat.

The former Top Chef contestant (Season 13) and judge (Season 18) was named the James Beard Foundation’s Rising Star Chef of the Year in 2019 while working at Kith/Kin in Washington D.C. Today, he serves his Afro-Caribbean cuisine in his New York City restaurant Tatiana (opened in 2002) and Dōgon, which opened last year in our nation’s capital.
SAHARA has not yet revealed exactly what he has planned for Vegas or what it will be called.
In a press release announcing the news, Onwuachi says he is “excited for this next chapter, and the opportunity to bring a new culinary concept to SAHARA Las Vegas and the city’s dynamic food scene.”
SAHARA’s general manager, Paul Hobson, says “We have closely followed Chef Onwuachi’s career and deeply admire the significant impact he has had in New York City and Washington, D.C., where he has redefined the dining scene with his acclaimed cuisine. At SAHARA, he will connect with a whole new audience, and we are honored to welcome him.”
OF NOTE: As previously reported, Jose Andres’ Bazaar Meat will close its doors at SAHARA on June 30 in preparation for its move to The Venetian.
The new incarnation will be located one level down from that resort’s Palazzo Tower lobby, near the valet parking pickup.
No opening date has been announced.
